Embroidery

Umm... embroidery, can't say I was at all excited to start this workshop, but heres what I have done so far, no idea where it is going and what I will have at the end of it.

So most of these are unfinished this one needs a lot of work yet. Any ideas or thoughts would be lovely.

End of ceramics

Assessment time is here and I hope I have enough to show for it, I am very happy with what I achieved over the last five weeks in ceramics. We finially got to glaze our work, and I am very impressed with how they look, unfortunately none of my thrown pots will be glazed for assessment some will not even have been fired. So half are glazed and the rest are in waiting.

These are from day 1 of ceramics, all lovely and glazed now.

My plates, I am so happy with these the colours are better what I expected.

So here's everything all together including the un-fired, un-glazed and a few broken ones.

More ceramics

Heres an update of my ceramics this week

Considering I had never thrown before, I don't think I did too badly. These are the first attempts in order from left the right.

Heres the fifth, it's a bit to one side but I will soon sort that out.
and the sixth, yes I realise it's a lot of bowls, I'm sure making a lot of bowls was some where in the brief. Since they are probably the easiest thing to start off making, makes sense we make bowls just to devolope technique and get used to throwing.
This is the exception to the rule, it started life as a bowl and then I thought what the hell try soemthing else and then it failed and colapsed, but only the top edge so I just folded it in and tidied it up a bit and now I quite like it.

Here is the full set of plates, I posted two of them in the last post I did, but here's the full set, these are by far my favourite thing so far. Althought I don't know exactally how the colours will look when tey have been glazed, which I'm hoping will getting done next week and yes I will be updating about the plates again when they are glazed.

As sad as it is I have a favourite plate and this is it. I think the colours work well together and in this design.

So here's what I've finished in the past few days, I started these ones yesterday and finished them off today, 4 out of 7 finished ain't to shabby.

My obsession with tea

So I heres a few pictures of the set up for my December assessment, these include both workshops, constructed textile and print.

This is how I chose to set up my work for assessment, I wanted to put the pieces I had created into some sort of context, by adding the stand I was able to put enphasis on my favourite pieces; the felted teapot with spiral handle and the tea towel hanging from the drawer, I think overall it is effective.

This teapot is made from felt and the hand is cane wrapped with felt. This was the most time consuming piece and in turn became my final piece for construsted textiles.

Here is a closer picture of the tea towel, the picture quality is not great but you can see the different teapot and teacup designs I think it is the most successful out of all the teatowels I produced.

Another felted teapot, this was the first attempt, this one has no handle but I quite like it without one.

These are just a few printed paper designs just to try out different ideas, to see which colours work best together.

The brief for print was to make a tea towel related to your chosen object, since my project revolves around teapots and teacups I needed to make as many different teapot designs and make them suit the brief. These are the designs I came up with.

Not over keen on these frames but they were purposely to give the impression of a home, just impersonal but relevent. The patchwork teapot I made using modroc and scraps of material, its sufficient for it's purpose, I got to a point where I really wanted to start ceramics but this was as close to ceramics as I could get at the time.

Wednesday, 9 February 2011

I've been meaning to set up a blog for awhile, this is pretty much just to send home so that they can see what i'm doing at uni. I thought I'd start off with what I'm currently doing and then work back and show what I have already done.

But to start with I've put up my ceramics work keep in mind I hadn't done ceramics up until a few weeks ago
Week 1
So here are my very first attempts, and yes this one broke.

All I can say is 'I wanted it to look like that'

Week 2
My first cups, I hate the handles but I like the cups. I don't know why I made the handles like this.

The colours aren't what I expected but you have to make the most of what you have and one of them unfortunately lost its handle.

Week 3
These plates are a set of four, I need to photograph the other two, they arn't exactally how I hoped they would turn out but I'm happy with them. They will make a nice set when they are all finished.
